React Job: Back End Developer

About the role

Juice is predominately a Ruby on Rails shop on the server side although we have a few serverless applications, TvOS and
TVML application. We believe in keeping state server side wherever possible and in collaboration between the backend
and frontend to pass understandable and clean payloads back and forth. The majority of work we undertake is for complex,
responsive web applications but we have been known to dabble in mobile and hardware based projects from time to time!

The frontend is usually built with ReactJS but older projects either use jQuery, vanillaJS or handlebars.

The key principle for engineers at Juice is to ask for help when it’s needed and never hesitate to bring in more brain power.
We are a relatively small, extremely friendly development team who work fast, love what we do and are experts in our domain.
Collaboration is at our core.

We mainly build large, complex and custom web applications for large brands across the UK. We work with BMW, MINI, Odeon
and ASDA to name just a few. We are brought in as soon as a digital product is needed to solve a business problem and work
to spec out a solution, design, build, ship, extend and maintain it. You’ll work on complex problems and help build and design
systems from small monolithic applications to heavy throughput, event driven micro services.

Skills required

• 4+ years experience with Ruby on Rails

• A deep understanding of databases

• Relational database knowledge is required

• Key-Value store knowledge is advantageous

• Document and/or graph database knowledge is

advantageous

• Experience with background jobs and multithreading

• Experience with AWS and Heroku

• Experience with Sinatra or Grape

• An understanding of generalised design patterns and Rails

specific patterns

• An eye for maintainable code and architecture

• An ability to work independently but also to know when to

reach out for a second opinion

• An ability to reason about your code and discuss advanced

development techniques

• A good understanding of how long common

implementations and features take to become production

ready (it is very difficult, we know!)

• A drive to work in an organised, independent manner
